GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING AWARDS

ELIGIBILITY

ELIGIBILITY

  1. To qualify for awards or fellowships, membership dues must be postmarked to the National Office by December 31, 2021. The only exception is for non-members on team award applications.
  2. The team leader for a team award application must be an NEAFCS member. All NEAFCS team members must have paid their dues by December 31 as outlined in the eligibility requirements (See No. 1 above). Team members who are not members of NEAFCS are not eligible for scholarship or monetary awards and will receive only a certificate.
  3. A member may receive only one first place individual and one first place team award as the lead author in the same year. This requirement does not include the Distinguished Service Award or the Continued Excellence Award.
  4. Individuals and/or teams may submit applications in more than one category.
  5. A member may submit one award application per category, either as an individual or team leader.
  6. Individuals and Teams are not eligible to win the first place national award for the same educational program or activity submitted in the same category during two consecutive years. However, second and third place national winners are eligible to submit a previously submitted educational program or activity as an application in the same category they placed second or third in the year before. NEAFCS members are not permitted to pay dues for past years to extend the years of membership for award eligibility.
  7. Award winners must receive an average score of 85 points or more to be a national winner, and an average score of 80 points or more for regional recognition. For awards with first, second and third place national winners, there will be first, second and third place regional winners.
  8. If an award has more than one national winner, the same number of regional winners will be recognized.
  9. Regional and National judging is conducted at the same time. Placings are determined by scores. (See No. 8.)
  10. Regional and National winners are notified concurrently. Non-winners will be notified after winners are notified.
  11. All awards will be presented at the NEAFCS Annual Session.
  12. First place National winners will have their award submissions posted to the NEAFCS website after Annual Session.

PROCEDURE AND FORMAT

RECOGNITION GUIDELINES

    1. State winners will be notified after judging is complete on the state level. The names of winners will not be released to the general membership or to the public until after the state meeting awards presentation.
    2. First place state winners will be recognized at the state meeting with a plaque. First and second place winning applications will be sent on to national competition (for national award categories). Exceptions: Distinguished Award winners and Continued Excellence –the number of winners will be determined according to national guidelines, which is determined by the number of paid members of NEAFCS by the February 1 deadline. Ada Dalla Pozza Professional Development Endowment will be presented at the annual Extension Conference.
    3. For the Youth Award, and the Early Career Award, which are state awards only, one winner shall be selected from each association district.
    4. All Cooperative Extension team members who are members of NEAFCS will receive a plaque if they are state winners. Cooperative Extension team members who are NOT members of NEAFCS will receive a framed certificate. Non-Extension team members will not receive a plaque or a certificate (motion passed at state meeting, 1999)If NEAFCS members wish to purchase a plaque or certificate for non-members contact the in advance the state Awards Chair. These may be purchased for the cost of the plaque or certificate and must be paid in advance. (updated 2000 state meeting)
    5. Quality plaques will be given to award winners according to specifications developed by the awards committee in 1999 in order to ensure continuity of quality from year to year. The following awards shall receive 9 x 12 plaques:
      • Distinguished
      • Florence Hall
      • Continued Excellence
      • Ada Dalla-Pozza Professional Development Endowment
    6. The following will receive a framed certificate, since they are proposals for funding or fellowships:
      • Greenwood Fellowship
      • Grace Frysinger Fellowship
      • Kraft Foods Consumer Center Media Grant – (motion passed at state meeting 1998)
    7. All other awards will receive 8 x 10 plaques. (motion passed at state meeting 1999)
    8. NEAFCS members who are winners of the following national awards shall receive a corsage to wear at the national meeting:
      • Distinguished Award
      • Florence Hall Award
      • Continued Excellence Award
      • NEAFCS Extension Educator of the Year

      The state vice-president of awards and recognition will contact the State President to order corsages, and will notify the district presidents to reimburse the state treasurer for national corsage expenses.

Applications received after the deadline, incomplete applications and applications that do not include at least 5 copies will not be judged.


ADA B. DALLA-POZZA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ENDOWMENT

Submitted and judged with State Extension Awards Not in January

Upon the realization that there was no opportunity for professional development awards specifically designated for Extension Family and Consumer Education Agents in North Carolina, Ada Dalla-Pozza, retired State Home Economics Leader, initiated the establishment of this endowment fund in 1992. Members of the North Carolina Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences assisted in providing the initial endowment of $30,000 before utilizing the interest gained for their first award.

CONTRIBUTIONS

Can be made to the NC Family and Consumer Sciences Foundation designating the contribution to be added to the “NCEAFCS Ada Dalla-Pozza Professional Development Award”. Indicate if the contribution is being given in honor or in memory of someone and the name and address where appreciation should be sent.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this award is to enhance the professional development of an outstanding Extension Family and Consumer Sciences career professional in North Carolina, who exhibits the ability to recognize concerns and needs of families and to involve people in planning and implementing educational programs that benefit clientele. The award is to be used for a professional improvement opportunity that will enhance the development of the applicant.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be a paid member of NCEAFCS by January 1 deadline and currently employed by NCCE.
  2. Applicant must have a professional Extension appointment on a county/area level with the responsibility for planning and implementing programs that benefits families.
  3. Applicant must have had a minimum of 5 years outstanding and creditable experience as an Extension professional with North Carolina Cooperative Extension and anticipate continuing career with NCCE, with at least 5 years of left before retirement.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Overview of Extension Accomplishments (within the past three years)
  • Involvement in NCEAFCS and the professional associations
  • Future plans for Professional Development
  • Professional development experience planned for use of this award

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Application submitted to District VP of Awards and Recognition. The winning application will be submitted to Laurie Edwards by the State VP of Awards and Recognition by the appropriate deadline for Extension Awards.

AWARDS PRESENTATION

  1. Funds to be awarded will be subject to interest available up to the amount of $1000 per awardee. Available interest funds over the amount awarded will be added to the principle.
  2. If there are no qualified applicants for this award in a given year, all interest funds for that year will be added to the principle in the development fund account.
  3. A plaque, crystal or acrylic will be presented to the awardee at the state meeting of NCEAFCS. The winner will also be recognized at the Annual Extension Conference (or District Conference when an annual conference is not held) during the organization’s awards ceremony. Award monies will be handled through the Foundation office.

EARLY CAREER AWARD

This award is established to recognize outstanding accomplishments of Family and Consumer Sciences member with less than ten years’ experience as an Extension Agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension; to recognize and encourage the use of innovative and effective methods of conducting Extension programs; and to encourage Family and Consumer Education Agents to participate in NCEAFCS and attend annual sessions. One Family and Consumer Science Agent winner shall be selected from each of the Association’s districts. In the event there is more than one application per district but a total that doesn’t exceed the number of districts (currently five – 2017) more than one winner may be named from a district.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be a paid member of NCEAFCS by January 1 deadline.
  2. Family and Consumer Science Agents in each association district who have less than 10 years’ experience are encouraged to apply for this award.
  3. Applications should be submitted following the NC Procedures for Submitting Awards.
  4. Award Application is due January 30, 2017 to District Vice-President of Awards and Recognition.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Should be based on the following:

  1. Accomplishment of nominee should be considered according to the number of years worked.
  2. Nomination can be made by another staff member.
  3. Nominee should include supportive materials (one or two items — news articles, brochures, etc.)
  4. Can include comments from other staff members.

YOUTH AWARD

The Youth Award is granted to recognize and celebrate the efforts of Family and Consumer Science Agents for their accomplishments in youth programming. One Family and Consumer Science Agent winner shall be selected from each of the Association’s districts. In the event there is more than one application per district but a total that doesn’t exceed the number of districts (currently five – 2017) more than one winner may be named from a district.
